Community Projects
Community Projects
Lily of the Valley Community Project is a non-profit community-based initiative.
Direct involvement with the community is the most effective way to fight the spread of the AIDS/HIV epidemic and to cope with its disastrous effects on a local level.
Our objective is to aid and empower the needy and impoverished people of adjacent communities so that they become healthy, confident and self-reliant.
EARLY CHILHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Children develop 80% of their intelligence before the age of 6 years. This intellectual development is driven by stimulation, nutrition and a favourable environment.
Our Ekujabuleni Day Care Centre provides children with daily meals, safe care and educational games.
Our next planned development is Lilyvale School, a school for children with Special Needs.
COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING
The objective of this program is to develop the capacity of our community to generate income through employment and entrepreneurship.
Current initiatives include :
- Computer Training Centre
- Adult Based Education Training
- Income Generation Activities (Sewing Centre, Beading Room, Store, Bakery, Food Processing Partnership, Mini-Factories)
FOOD SECURITY
The aim of the food security program is to provide food for the children at our Children’s Village, generate income for the community and transfer farming and horticultural skills to community members. We also provide monthly food parcels to those in need in the community. The program currently consists of five vegetable growing tunnels and the use of existing farm land for additional crop farming.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We want to share available project resources with our local communities, who have so few of their own resources.
The following shared resources are planned:
- Health Care Clinic
- Sports Facilities
- Community Hall
- Satellite Police Station
